Louise has recently completed a year long residency at the Bishopsland Workshops near
Reading and has just moved back to her rural roots in Herefordshire.
The rural setting for her upbringing has clearly inspired her style of work.
She was also greatly influenced by a semester of study at Kookmin University in Seoul in 2004, as part of her degree.
Louise graduated in 2005 from Sheffield Hallam University with Ba(hons) Metalwork and Jewellery. Her
signature style involves producing unique ‘flower’ units which
comprise metal tubing pieces soldered into intricate patterns. Recent
exploration has discovered that these units are very versatile in their
utilisation, initially she was creating small sculptures, but she now also
creates products from necklace links to candle holders. She relishes the
challenge of using the mathematical patterns found in nature, whilst
ensuring the ‘organic’ element of creation and craft is retained. Her
direct approach allows great sensitivity to the properties of metal. For
example, the catch on her Brooch is fully integrated into
the structure of the brooch as it is a variation on the individual flower
units. The silver usually has a soft white finish with a subtle lustre.
She has recently been incorporating some gold into her work, often to
highlight the ‘unit’ within the pattern. Louise
also creates a range of silver Leaf Spoons. Each spoon is unique due to
the organic process, which involves creating a spine which runs the length
of the spoon, this has a lovely tactile quality as well as making the
spoons very strong. Louise
is happy to discuss commissions and there are more images of her work on
her website.
