The inspiration for my work comes from the textures and patterns found in time worn surfaces - eroded metals, fragments of pottery, driftwood and antique textiles.
Other influences include domestic archaeological finds and items of jewellery/metalwork from the Iron Age through to Roman times.
These design elements are translated into a range of jewellery that includes rings, pendants, bracelets and earrings. Most designs are made in limited editions, with additional one off pieces being produced for exhibitions or as commissioned items.
I work mostly with sterling silver, occasionally using red or yellow gold to add decorative details. I tend to let the material inform the work rather than 'manufacture' a piece to a specific design. Texture is created through reticulation and hammered marks with additional details fused or soldered into place. The pieces are then oxidised with liver of sulphur and polished to highlight the surface.
